You are six buddy! Birthdays are always so exciting for you; you want to grow up so much. Lincoln, I want you to know how much I love you. You have been a blessing since the moment you came to our family. I knew when you were born that you were special. There is a powerful light about you, and you constantly share that light with others. When I watch you around other children, my heart fills with complete love. You don't judge others for their differences, and you are patient and kind to those around you.
This year has been an exciting one for you. Going to school and riding the bus are things you look forward to every day. I know that it is hard with me working; getting out of bed and brushing your teeth are miserable for you in the morning! It takes you an awfully long time to shine your teeth, and I sometimes have to drag you to car, but I am proud of you for being strong as we adjust to this new life.
As the school year is coming to an end, I have watched you grow into your own little person. You are becoming bolder with voicing your opinions and letting your needs be heard. At the beginning of the school year, you were too scared to ask your teacher if you could use the bathroom. You came home each day and raced to the bathroom from holding it all day. It broke my heart! You have come out of your shell and asking for help is no longer scary. You aren't afraid anymore, and you are always looking out for your little brother. Nobody is allowed to be mean to him, and when people take his toys or get frustrated, you say, "He's just a baby! He doesn't understand." It is adorable, and it shows how much you care about him.
Lincoln you have a big imagination, and I am excited to see what this entails for your future. Maybe you will be a creative writer like mommy? I don't know yet, but with each sentence and story you write, I smile proudly at your work. You are a naturally good reader, but your favorite subject is math. You enjoy figuring things out and solving puzzles; building complicated Lego sets is one of your favorite activities. You can't seem to decide on what you want to be when you grow up, and it already stresses you out. Should you build houses or join the army? I'm not sure buddy, but I know that you will be successful at whatever you do. For now, just play. That is all I ever want you to do. Play and be six. I wish I could capture all the wonderful things about you now, and hold onto it forever: your belly-laugh, your constant snuggles, your hilarious stories, the way you ride your bike with a look of pride, the excitement you get when you see something new, the sparkle in your eye, how your pants always fall off, how you read and pronounce words, the thoughtful questions you ask, and the innocence you still have.
Lincoln you are loved. You are loved by mom, dad, and your brother, but that's not all. You are loved by all that get to know you. I hear constant compliments from those in your life: you are polite, respectful, hardworking, positive, sweet, and kind. Do you know how awesome that is buddy?! It is amazing! People truly love you for being Lincoln. Don't ever forget how special you are. You have blessed this world with your beautiful spirit, and I am so lucky that you chose our family.
