Maverick is One Month Old

IMG_1125 Likes:

  • Sleeping on his belly
  • Nursing
  • Baths
  • Getting talked or sung to
  • Being held
  • Swinging in his swing
  • Sleeping with mommy
  • Going outside
  • Sitting up to see the world
  • Laying on his side.  Since the day he came out he has rolled straight to his side to sleep. Some days he gets a little over zealous and rolls to his belly. This makes bath time scary for me because he is always trying to roll over or turn his face towards the water.
  • Smiling in his sleep
  • Grunting ALL night long.

New Skills:

  • Pooping less

Wears:

  • Size 1 diapers
  • Newborn clothes, although a few are getting a little short and some still are huge.

Sleeps:

  • Goes to bed at 8:30 and wakes up every three hours to eat. Some days he goes four hours between and some days he wakes up every two hours to be comforted. We are working on him staying in his own bed, which is hard because in our bed he was sleeping five hours straight.
  • Takes five naps

Hates:

  • The car
  • Laying on his back
  • Sleeping in his own bed
  • Getting ignored for too long
  • His binky (which we make him take anyways)

Nicknames (or what he gets called):

  • Mavo
  • The Baby
  • Angel

Other:

Still too little for the Bumbo

This month has of course flown by(what every mother says about every week, month and year when referring to her child) but it has also gotten me extremely excited for all the future months. The first year of life is so much fun! Maverick is always full surprises; some are funny and sweet and often times downright smelly.

Reward System

Before Maverick was born we started letting Lincoln stay in our bed in the middle of the night( I know terrible parenting!). Once Maverick got here, and he wanted to sleep in our bed too, it became a problem. There was not enough room for two adults, a bed hogging toddler and a newborn!

We had two options

     A. Buy a bigger bed

                      or

B. Make our kids sleep in their own beds

We decided to make our kids sleep in their own beds. If we failed, we would buy a bigger bed and move into a one bedroom apartment(which actually would save us a lot of money and is quite tempting).

So, Lincoln and I went online and picked out pictures for his “sticker chart”. He chose nine transformers(his newest obsession) and we printed them off and cut them out. Every night he stayed in his own bed he could tape a picture on his chart the next morning. After a couple of weeks he had all the pictures on and got to pick out a new toy!

It worked better than we hoped for!

So, we started a second chart to help motivate him to clean up his toys. We went online again and I let him pick pictures out to earn another toy.

Here is his chart with the pictures he chose:

Family Visits

My parents and my sister Denell and her three kids, Lexi, Oakley and Crew, came to visit for a week when Maverick was ten days old. We did a lot with them and Maverick just slept and slept as he was consistently held and kissed.

Lincoln was very excited to have his “friends” visit.IMG_0817 The first day we went to the beach and the kids played in the water.IMG_0759 IMG_0763 Digging for clamsIMG_0769 IMG_0781

My mom holding grandbaby number 11. I  can’t believe how blessed we are that my mom could be there for this very special time. After almost a year of uterine AND breast cancer, multiple surgeries and months of chemo, my mom finished her last treatment just weeks before coming. Although still a little weak, she was healed enough that she could help take care of me and have a lot of fun. She is an awesome grandma and all her grandbabies love her,

And she looks A-MAZ-ING!IMG_0786 Crew and Lincoln. The first day Lincoln told Crew he wanted him to go home because he was a little overwhelmed, but every day after that they were best friends.IMG_0790 IMG_0793

We picked 20 pounds of raspberries! We got a little carried away from our excitement.

I bawled like a baby when my family left. I really love their craziness.

And then my sister Eleena and her family came:

We got to see this little guy again. Carson is four months older than Maverick, so they are bound to be best friends one day.

We also spent some time at the beach. It was seriously perfect weather and was beautiful!

It was awesome to see my family and we can’t wait to see them again in September for Maverick’s blessing! We definitely enjoyed having them here!
