And Then I Crawl into a Hole and DIE…..

Last Friday, I took Maverick and Lincoln on a wagon ride and found a letter in my door.

It stated that the apartment complex would be running fire alarm tests on Monday(that would be today) and not to be frightened by the continual alarms getting set off. Also, they will have a master key to each apartment and if no one is home they will come inside and quickly check the alarms.

“That should be great for nap time,” I thought and tucked it into the wagon so I would remember later (my first mistake).

Fast-forward three days later and I completely forgot about the letter. Lincoln is busy watching a movie and I go into my room and start breastfeeding Maverick. The fire-alarm starts to go off and I think, “ Oh yea, that was today” and I continue to feed maverick not thinking much more about it (my second mistake). The noise continues to get louder and louder and Maverick is having a heck of a time staying focused on the task at hand.

Then Lincoln runs into my bedroom, “Mom! Dad is home!”.

I look at the clock and reply, “No, that’s not daddy. He won’t be home yet,” and I continue to struggle to feed Maverick and don’t even think about why Lincoln thinks his dad is home (my third mistake).

Maverick has never had such a hard time latching and the noise is frustrating us both. Every time it screeches he flips his head backwards and begins looking around.

In my hurry to get the job done, I tug my shirt alllllll the way up with both, yes BOTH, boobs exposed when I hear a man say, “Hey”. My first thought is “Scott’s home” and I turn and nearly have a heart-attack at Random-fire-guy standing in my doorway. He gets a great show and smacks the door frame in his attempt to escape my room.

I scream, “OH MY FREAKING HECK! I AM BREASTFEEDING!”.

He begins mumbling that he knocked and just needs to check the alarms.  (Our front door is on the first floor and our apartment is on the second floor. We literally never hear anyone knock even without fire alarms going.)

I calm myself down and we spend the next two minutes awkwardly pretending that he didn’t just see me half-naked and then he leaves. I mumble a thank you and he literally runs down our stairs.

and then I crawl into a hole and die……..

Bath Paint

I made a goal when Maverick was born to do one fun thing with Lincoln every day. This doesn’t have to be extreme; it can be as simple as going to the park or painting a picture.

One day I tried out some bath paint. It is really simple, just cornstarch, water, food coloring and baby shampoo.

Lincoln thought it was awesome, and I always find myself joining in on the painting fun.IMG_1505 IMG_1501 IMG_1504

Honest Abe

You know that awkward moment when your child tells another kid AND the parent they need to take a bath and wipe their butts because they smell like poop?

No? No you don’t?

Hmmmm….yeah…I guess I have never experienced that horrifying and turn bright red moment either. But since we are on the topic of kids telling other people they stink, what exactly would you do if you were in that situation? Hypothetically speaking, of course.

Your child would never do that?

Yea mine would never do that either.

IMG_1495 (Pictures taken at the library where Lincoln’s favorite thing to say while walking by the local homeless person is, “Mom, what’s that smell?”)IMG_1496

I was always told kids live up to their names; that’s why we named Lincoln after a President of the United States.

He is our Honest Abe.

I am Tall

We tell Lincoln if he sleeps and eats lots than he will grow tall. He takes it very seriously.

Every morning he comes in my room and says, “Mom I slept two days!” We haven’t figured out the two days thing, but he has been saying it for the past several months.

“You did? That is amazing….” I always mumble wishing he would keep sleeping.

“I am this tall” he says motioning to the ceiling and then he goes to the bathroom, stands on the sink and reaches as high as he can to show me how tall he is. This involves rubbing his hands up and down the glass.

After he has made plenty of fingerprints all over my mirrors, I give him the cleaner and he washes is off……which I told him also makes him tall.

What do you tell your kids to get them to do what you want? Only true things right?

New Sports

Our kids have recently started new sports. We try to encourage them to always try new things, and to our great surprise they both have found their niche in life.

Lincoln has been teaching himself how to skim-board and surf. All it really takes is a piece of his bed, some music and a blanket or two.

Paddling out:

Maverick is Two Months

IMG_1510 Likes:

  • Swinging in his swing
  • Sleeping on his belly
  • Sitting up
  • Being outside
  • Stroller rides
  • Baths in hot water
  • Diaper changes
  • Going for walks
  • Being naked
  • His binky(yay, we get him to take it without gagging!)
  • Cooing and talking
  • Cuddling and sleeping in our arms

Hates:

  • Laying on his back
  • Being left alone in another room. We will all leave our bedroom and soon we hear him squawk out to let us know he wants to follow. Then we put him by us and he continues being happy.
  • Missing naps. If there is one way to make him grumpy, it is missing naps or taking them late.
  • His car seat

Milestones:

  • Started smiling. It is hard to get Maverick to smile but when he does, it is this huge open-mouth grin that lights up his whole face—and mine.

Sleeps:

This little baby is full of surprises when it comes to sleeping. One night he will go six hours straight and the next night he will only do four. I literally never know what I am going to get, but he usually sleeps from 9:30-2:30 then wakes at 5:00 to eat and sleeps until 8:30. He takes three long naps in his crib and two short naps in our arms at night.

Wears:

  • Size two diapers
  • Newborn and 0-3 months clothes. He is really long so it all depends on the outfit.

Nicknames:

Mavo (Lincoln calls him this)

Mav

Lil Baby

Firsts:

First time swimming at six weeks old. I only got a picture by the side of the pool.

Maverick is our little angel and we love him so much! I can’t believe he has only been with us for two short months. These past months have been such a blast and there hasn’t been a dull moment.

Thanks Maverick for choosing our family! We love you bigger than the sky!
